Just back today from an amazing weekend in London after joining in with the Climate March in London on Saturday known as THE WAVE – hence the fabulous blue running throughout. I understand that media coverage hasn’t been fantastic (surprise surprise – there was probably a fascinating football scandal that needed to take precedence) so in case you didn’t pick up on what was happening – over 50,000 people from all walks on life marched on Parliament to highlight their fears and concerns about the impact of climate change at the opening of the climate talks in Copenhagen. These are a handful of the images that I took on the march – many thanks to my buddy Matt Carmichael for the portrait of me and my husband Jonny (picture no 1!). I was in documentary heaven for the march and the atmosphere was amazing… If you are involved in a climate group/charity and would like to make use of the images please do make contact as I’m more than happy to help out….

I rode the Wave – Climate Change March in London
December 8, 2009The Wave – march for a safe climate future
December 4, 2009I’m getting really excited about my trip to London tomorrow on The Wave Express to join thousands of others marching to demonstrate my support for a safe climate future in advance of next weeks climate talks in Copenhagen. The action starts at 12pm at Grosvenor Square with the climax of the march happening at 3pm when we will circle Parliament – it’s going to be a family focused day so really safe with lots of entertainment and music. Blue is the fashion choice for the day and I have a rather fetching blue wig ready for action! I’m going to be taking a camera with me so promise to post some documentary shots of the march next week…
Please do join me if you can as it’s so important that we send our world leaders a strong message that nothing but a strong and binding agreement in Copenhagen will do:
Copenhagen Climate Talks – take action
November 18, 2009I attended a really thought provoking debate at Leeds University last Friday titled ‘Countdown to Copenhagen’ The panel included Franny Armstrong – director of The Age of Stupid, Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP – Secretary of State for DEFRA, Ashok Sinha – Director of the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition, Edward McMillan Scott MEP – Vice-President of the European Parliament and Rt Hon John Prescott MP. I came away empowered with new knowledge but also with a sense of frustration and fear at how many barriers seem to be in the way of effective action.
There are just 19 days left until the climate talks open in Copenhagen and it is now formally recognised by the G8 countries that if we exceed 2 degrees global warming we will have triggered runaway climate change leading to devastation worldwide. The media and doubters have been playing the usual pessimist cards but there’s still hope that an agreement can be reached. Yesterday, America & China started to make positive noises about achieving agreement at the talks so it’s more important that ever that we send strong messages of support to the world leaders that failure to agree is not an option.
If like me, you’d like to take some active steps towards tackling climate change issues here are a few things you might like to consider:
- Come and join THE WAVE – 5th December in London – march on Westminster to send a strong message to the world leaders in Copenhagen that an ambitious, fair and binding agreement is needed urgently.
- Sign up to Ed Milliband’s campaign for a fair and binding deal in Copenhagen
- Sign up to the 10:10 campaign and pledge to cut your personal carbon footprint by 10% in 2010
- If you haven’t already seen it buy or rent Franny Armstrong’s film – The Age of Stupid. Watch Film Trailer
- Visit the Friend of the Earth’s informative website to find out more about climate change issues and how you can make a difference. A key campaign for me is Fix The Food Chain Campaign.

Stop Climate Chaos are organising a special train to take over 500 people down to London to march peacefully in the lead up to the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen. It’s so important that as many people as possible take a stand to show the world leaders that they need to take urgent action… The key messages of the march are to quit dirty coal, protect the poorest and act fair and fast… Please visit the Stop Climate Chaos Website for more information. I’ll post details about train bookings as soon as the payment system is available. The train is due to visit various stations in the North including Leeds, Bradford & Doncaster. I’ll be there with lots of friends – it would be amazing if you could join us…
Save the Honeybee – Soil Association petition
July 15, 2009I think the plight of the honeybee has become an important issue to a lot of people – please do take a couple of moments to visit the Soil Association website to find out more about the petition they have just launched calling for Hilary Benn to bring about a ban on a class of harmful agricultural pesticides called neonicotinoids – research has shown them to be a contributing factor in the alarming death rates within the honeybee population – France, Germany & Slovenia have already banned them – let’s put the pressure on to make the UK next in line…

Operation Chicken rescue…
June 7, 2009For those of you who don’t really take much time to think about the source of your food this is definitely the post for you… My parent’s have recently “rescued” 8 hens from a battery farm to give them a new life with a lovely free range existence. The birds were about to be shipped off for slaughter to be made into god knows what after one year of intensive laying. Each hen cost 50 pence…! My mum went to collect the birds and had to experience first hand the conditions these birds are subjected to – 10,000 birds in one massive shed with 4 hens to a cage the size of an A3 piece of paper.
I thought it would be really positive to document the changes the birds go through as they adjust from chicken hell to chicken heaven. The birds now have freedom to roam across an acre of land and a safe warm place to shelter at night time. These are a handful of images I’ve taken just to record the state of the birds in the first few days of their arrival – hope that I’ll be able to show some more happy healthy birds in a few weeks…
Lizzie & Matt’s Green Wedding
May 28, 2009
What a gorgeous day – full of emotion with beautiful personal touches. So many friends had chipped into the day – including music, readings and prayers. Lizzie & Matt really thought about the environmental impact of their wedding choosing local venues which enabled them to walk everywhere on the day – as well as bringing in lots of eco touches to their reception at The Endsleigh Centre.
