Had a fantastic time on Tuesday night at a Forward Ladies event at Bibis Italianissimo Restaurant in Leeds.  It was a v.glam affair with a Sex in the City theme – check out those fab Dawn Stretton dresses!  Guests enjoyed Cosmo cocktails, music, goody bags, jewellery and shoe shopping and some very yummy food.  The evening was in aid of Radio Aire’s Cash for Kids Charity and there was an amazing raffle with girly prizes galore.  As well as get to know the very lovely hospitality manager at Bibis Mandy Barwick (aka Carrie Bradshaw!) it was really good to catch up with some fellow wedding suppliers including Fiona from Firenza Floral Design, Laurra from One Life Ceremonies, Kelly from Boho Weddings, Nikki from I Do Designer Weddings and Christine from Horticouture Flowers – phew – quite an impressive turn out!

Back from the Alps…

March 10, 2010

Just back from an amazing weeks skiing in Les Arcs in France.  Enjoyed 8 days on the slopes instead of 6 as we all travelled by Eurostar which was a cool new adventure.  Not the most comfortable of sleeping experiences but hey who cares when you don’t have nasty air miles on your conscience and there’s only a 10 minute transfer to your chalet.  Would definitely recommend it as a good alternative to flying…  Oh.. and you can’t beat starting a holiday at the St. Pancreas Champagne Bar!

Busy catching up on lots of wedding and portrait enquiries as well as getting set for some upcoming commercial shoots for 10 Associates and One Life Ceremonies.

xx

I was really lucky to have the opportunity to attend a brilliant talk by one of my favourite documentary photographers, Martin Parr, in Leeds on Thursday.  The event was hosted by Creative Networks which aims to support collaboration between Yorkshire artists and creative industries.  Just in case you haven’t come across Parr’s work before do visit his website for more information and to view his portfolios.  Parr is famous for his frank portrayal of the mundane with a focus on social issues and consumerism.  His images can be both humorous and uncomfortable at the same time as they give his subjects no room to hide.

Winter Wonderland…

January 7, 2010

Although I’m meant to be head down in accounts spreadsheets, I just had to get outside this morning to enjoy what has to be the most stunning day for ages – in Leeds we’re enjoying crystal blue skies and crisp white snow everywhere…  I know people are finding loads to grumble about with the snow but personally… I’m loving it!  I love the fact that I’m walking everywhere (and so are most other people so there are hardly any cars on the road!) and there’s just a lovely feeling of peace and quiet.  I love the feeling of stomping through the deep snow in my wellies and not being able to see my feet!

One of my resolutions for 2010 is to make more time for personal photographic projects so I enjoyed a fantastic photography session exploring local landmarks within 1/2 mile of my front door.  I had the grounds of Kirkstall Abbey all to myself and loved it!!  Hope you enjoy the images and they serve to remind why winter is fab!!

Happy New Year!

January 4, 2010

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!  Hope everyone had lots of fun over the Christmas holidays…  I saw in the New Year with friends and family in a remote scout house near Whitby – freezing cold but lots of fun!

I’m nearly back in full work mode – I was all geared to head off to the studio this morning but can’t get my car out of our street due to the ice – the joys of cobbles!  Luckily I’d bought my MAC home for the holidays so have set up a temporary home office until I can escape!  My cat Tina Sparkles is trying her best to be a helpful office assistant but keeps sitting right in front of my screen!

January is always a really exciting month for me as there are always tons of new wedding enquiries following Christmas engagements and I use it as a business review period – there’s tons on the “to do” list including website updates – so watch this space for new portfolio shots and a new 2009 wedding showreel featuring some of my favourite moments from the year…

Here’s to a fantastic 2010 !!

Just back today from an amazing weekend in London after joining in with the Climate March in London on Saturday known as THE WAVE – hence the fabulous blue running throughout.  I understand that media coverage hasn’t been fantastic (surprise surprise – there was probably a fascinating football scandal that needed to take precedence) so in case you didn’t pick up on what was happening – over 50,000 people from all walks on life marched on Parliament to highlight their fears and concerns about the impact of climate change at the opening of the climate talks in Copenhagen.  These are a handful of the images that I took on the march – many thanks to my buddy Matt Carmichael for the portrait of me and my husband Jonny (picture no 1!).  I was in documentary heaven for the march and the atmosphere was amazing…  If you are involved in a climate group/charity and would like to make use of the images please do make contact as I’m more than happy to help out….

New addiction…. knitting!

October 15, 2009

I’ve been meaning to get some new craft skills under my belt for sometime so I was really thrilled to have the opportunity to do a learn to knit workshop at the very lovely Baa Ram Ewe in Headingley this week. The owner Verity was a complete star and has got me well on the way with the basics. I’m starting out on a very fetching chunky (very chunky!!) scarf – but already have my eye on my next project – funky arm warmers / gloves.

Verity stocks an amazing range of wool focusing on Yorkshire yarns and British breeds which is so cool. So rather than buying a new pair of gloves from the high street that are made in goodness knows where it’s so great to have control over the source of your material and get the feel good factor of creating something yourself… Yep – I’m a knitting convert…

Bridesmaid Duties!

September 2, 2009

Apologies for the lack of new posts – it’s been a busy summer packed to the rafters with lots of wonderful weddings – I promise to share some of my favourite images really soon…

I’ve also been really busy moving into my new studio space in Rawdon, Leeds – it’s starting to take shape and am looking forward to welcoming clients old and new to come and say hi in the near future.

I’m very excited to be on the other side of the camera this weekend as bridesmaid for my best buddy Miranda – she was my bridesmaid last September for my wedding so I’m very chuffed to be returning the favour… Pics to follow…

For those not in the know I’m just back from my holidays. Rather than clock up nasty polluting air miles we decided this year to enjoy the best of British and have had a fab time down in beautiful Cornwall. We’ve enjoyed lots of adventures in our wonderful new Soul Pad Tent – who said camping has to be a torturous experience !? From long lazy days on the beach in baking sun, stunning cliff top walks, pottering in vintage shops, yummy cream teas and one or two pints of local cider – it’s been ACE ! Our favourite campsite was Henry’s in Lizard – so basically as far South as you can go! Really unique site with lots of like minded hippy at heart souls!

Good to be back at work though- or it will be once I’ve got through my e-mail inbox – 1865 messages! Apologies to all of the new enquiries that have come through – I’ll be in touch asap!

Just thought I’d share a little secret with you… but don’t tell everyone as I like the idea of it being exclusive to those in the know! La Rosa is one of my favourite places to go and chill for a few days – it’s the most crazy, beautiful, random campsite you’ll ever visit… Full of vintage caravans – eco friendly with a compost toilet in a gypsy caravan and no electricity – a fab box of dressing up clothes in the circus tent – romantic showers in a candlelit cowshed – the randomness goes on and on. I don’t want to spoil the fun as you need to discover it for yourself but here’s one little photo taken by my hubby that gives you an indication of the level of chill I achieved on our last stay! We also spent a night in the newly opened La Rosa Hotel in Whitby which is stunning – an amazing place for a romantic getaway… If you do make a visit say hi from Olivia & Jonny and my top tip is to ask for the Tinkers Van !
