International Women’s Day – Charity fundraiser for IDAS
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
Charity Fundraiser for IDAS
It was wonderful to mark International Women’s Day this year in great company. I have worked with IDAS on a few different photography campaigns so it was lovely to be able to give some time to document their fundraising event – ‘Make Some Noise for International Women’s Day’. IDAS support people affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence across Yorkshire. They offer refuge accommodation and a wide range of support services.
The event was held at the Basement Bar at York Cityscreen. Proceedings were opened by Catherine Heinemeyer who compared the evening. The opening was followed by a beautiful acoustic set by singer-songwriter Rachel Croft. Rachel’s voice is simply sublime and it was so good to hear some tracks from her upcoming album. There was then a performance by Joolz Denby who is an IDAS patron. Joolz is a poet, artist and tattooist from Bradford. She did a spoken word set sharing some of her poems. The set had such powerful content which had the audience jumping from hysterical laughter to sad reflection.
The performance then continued with a brilliant set from spoken word artist Hannah Davies. Hannah’s work is so amazing – utterly engaging and thought provoking. Everything was then perfectly rounded off with a musical set from two-piece We Are Hannah. Kind of cool that the 2nd half of the night was all Hannahs!!
Here are some favourites from the evening. I used to do a lot of band photography when I first started out (that is a long time ago now!!) so it was good to be back in stage photography mode again! Low light heaven!
Please do take a moment to visit the IDAS website. They literally are life savers for so many people. I met several domestic abuse survivors during the last IDAS photography campaign and their stories still stick with me.
