The Normans, York – Country wedding photography
THE NORMANS YORK
COUNTRY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
The Normans is a super cool new venue on the York wedding scene. It is based in beautiful countryside whilst being a stones throw from the A64 so easy to reach from both York and Leeds. The venue has perfectly matched countryside rustic charm with cool contemporary.
Hannah and Stevie’s wedding plans were focused on creating an informal and relaxed celebration. The day started with guests gathering for a pre-ceremony drinks reception in the courtyard. Guests then took their seats in the atmospheric barn which is full to the rafters of fairy lights. Hannah and Stevie took a traditional approach by keeping separate before the ceremony with each bride making her entrance with her Dad and entourage of bridesmaids. The ceremony was full of emotion and a real privilege to document. The newly weds made an amazing confetti exit into the sunshine and then enjoyed time with family and friends over drinks and canapes.
Hannah and Stevie both looked stunning in their dresses with matching feather bouquets. Bridesmaids were dressed in dark olive green.
To keep the relaxed feel of the day going we avoided a formal group section. Instead, groups of family and friends were captured throughout the day as the opportunity arose. We also just took ten minutes or so for some portraits of Hannah and Stevie. This is always precious time for the couple as it gives time away from their guests to take everything in. I always approach wedding day portraits really naturally with minimal posing and direction.
Guests were then called through to the marquee to be seated for dinner. Feathers featured as a central theme in the marquee and were used to decorate the seating plan and tables. Funky copper cans with cacti worked so well with the sparkly lights in the marquee. Catering was provided by Friends4Dinner. Hannah and Stevie had opted to serve Thai food which made a lovely change from more typical wedding day choices. Hannah’s Dad and Mum said a few words after dinner which rounded the wedding breakfast off perfectly.
Celebrations continued into the evening with more guests arriving. The evening light was beautiful and it was lovely to capture a sense of the sunset through to night in the images. As the sunset hit fully we took some more portraits of Hannah and Stevie in the field opposite the venue. The light was just stunning and I love the informal feel of these shots.
The Normans looks so cool in the dark – tons of funky lights bring everything to life. A wood burning pizza oven was set up in the ceremony barn to keep guests well fed during the party. Hannah and Stevie kicked off the dancing with a great first dance. There were then lots of fab dancing shots captured as the party got into full swing.
Just before I made my departure, we took the opportunity to create a sparkler shot for Hannah and Stevie. A huge thank you to Hannah’s friend who did such a great job of running around in the pitch black sparkler in hand!
Huge congratulations again to you both xx
The Normans featured Hannah & Stevie’s fab wedding on their blog and there are lots of their lovely images to enjoy on the venue’s gallery page too.
